BEFORE TREATMENT

1. Am I a good candidate for this treatment? / Will this treatment work for me?

The ideal candidate is anyone who shows signs of skin damage, including deep wrinkles, scars, visible pores, stretch marks, and/or anything else that affects the skin’s texture.

For safety reasons, you may not be able to get this treatment if you have/are:

  •  An Internal defibrillator/pacemaker or any other active electrical implant in the body

  •  Any permanent implant or injected substance around the treatment area

  •  Any active conditions in the treatment area (e.g. rash

  • History of skin disorders or very dry skin

  • Current or history of cancer (including pre-malignant moles)

  • Severe concurrent conditions (e.g. cardiac disorders)

  •  Pregnant or nursing

  •  An impaired immune system

  •  A history of disease around the treatment area that’s stimulated by heat (e.g. herpes)

  •  Poorly controlled endocrine disorders (e.g. diabetes)

  •  Taking blood thinners

  •  Had a facelift or eyelid surgery within the past three months

  •  Had any resurfacing treatments or chemical peels within the past three months

  •  Had any cosmetic injections within the past two weeks

  •  Consumed any Advil, Tylenol or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs within the past week of your treatment

  •  Any surgeries within the past six months

  •  Treating over tattoos or permanent makeup

  •  Excessively tanned

2. I have darker skin – can I still get this treatment done?

Yes. Venus Versa™ skin resurfacing treatments use technology that’s safe for all skin tones, even darker ones.

3. How many sessions will I need to see results?

Most patients receive three treatments per area. The exact number will depend on each person and the treated area. Consult with a professional to determine the best treatment plan for you.

4. How often/far apart should the treatments be?

Treatments are done four weeks apart.

5. Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?

Make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams, perfumes, powder, or makeup before your treatment session, and avoid tanning. Remove all jewelry around the area being treated. If you have excessive hair on the treatment area, shave it beforehand.

DURING TREATMENT

1. How long does a treatment session last?

Each session lasts 15-30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

2. What does the treatment feel like?

You will feel tiny pins on your skin followed by a little zap. Your face will then feel warm, like a sunburn.

3. Will it be painful?

Venus Versa™ skin resurfacing treatments may be slightly uncomfortable but not painful. You’ll feel intense heat, similar to the feeling of sunburn, and your face will look red right after the treatment. For more aggressive treatments, you may get a topical numbing cream to reduce any discomfort.

AFTER TREATMENT

1. How will I feel after my treatment?

Your skin will be red and feel warm afterward, like a sunburn. You can ease this by fanning or exposing the area to cool air. Don’t put anything on your skin, not even water, for 24 hours. The warm feeling should go away within 24 hours.

2. Is there downtime after the treatment? / How long is the recovery time?

Yes, but only for 24 hours post-treatment (or up to 5 days for more aggressive treatments), unlike lasers or other treatments where recovery or downtime lasts up to 10 days. Your skin will be red, and for the first 24 hours, you will not be allowed to apply or rub anything on your skin, including water or sweat (so no hot yoga or any other exercise that will make you perspire). After 24 hours, you may put on makeup and resume your regular skincare routine. You should apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30), preferably without chemicals. But avoid rigorous exercise and hot baths or massages in the treatment area for the first two days after your session. Make sure to keep your skin clean and protected from the sun. Avoid any sort of tanning.

3. How long will the results last, and are they permanent?

After your final treatment, your results will continue to improve. However, one touch-up session may be needed approximately every six months, depending on how your skin responds.

4. Do I need to do anything after my treatment?

If your skin feels hot, you can use a fan to cool it down. Avoid touching or scratching the treatment area. Do not put lotion, makeup, or anything else on your skin, including water, for 24 hours. After 24 hours, you should apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30), preferably without chemicals. Also, avoid rigorous exercise and hot baths or massages in the treatment area for the first two days after your session. Make sure to keep your skin clean and protected from the sun. Avoid any sort of tanning.

5. Can I put on makeup or lotion right after my treatment?

No. You should wait 24 hours after your treatment to apply any makeup or lotion.

These items may increase bleeding and bruising. ** Please do not discontinue prescribed blood-thinning medication such as Aspirin, Plavix, Warfarin, or Eliquis unless you have been advised by your prescriber or treatment practitioner

Please reschedule your appointment if you:

  • have an active facial infection,

  • Do not consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours before treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)

  • Isotretinoin: If you are currently taking Isotretinoin, an acne medication (e.g. Roaccutane), you must stop taking it at least three months prior to your IPL treatments.

  • If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Speak to your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize an outbreak

  • No medical facials, Chemical peels, Laser treatments or microdermabrasion for at least two weeks before treatment.

  • No IPL/Laser or excessive sun exposure/sunburn for at least two weeks prior to treatment

POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS SKIN RESURFACING

After

  • Do NOT touch, press, rub, or manipulate the treated area(s) for at least 24 hours after your treatment.

  • Do not wash for at least 24 hours after your treatment.

  • Avoid alcohol, Aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as Advil, Motrin, Aleve), St. John's Wort, Omega 3's, Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba and Ginseng for one week after treatment. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

  • To help avoid bruising, patients are recommended to discontinue the use of blood-thinning medication. Patients must consult their primary care physician before discontinuing any blood-thinning medicines if they are taking them for underlying health conditions.

  • You may notice a tingling sensation while the cells are being activated.

  • If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Speak to your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize an outbreak.

  • Smokers do not heal well, problems recur earlier, and results take longer

  • Maintain a healthy diet and drink at least 64 oz of water the day of the treatment

  • Rinse your face with lukewarm water after 24 hrs and avoid using any cleansers that can cause harm.

  • You can expect to see redness for the first 24 hours or so. The skin may also seem raw. By the second day, the redness may settle a little and start to appear like a sunburn.

  • Avoid extensive sun or exposure to UV and extreme heat for 72 hours, i.e. sauna, steam, sunbeds, very hot showers, strenuous exercise etc.

  • Reduce the risk of infection and reaction by not touching the area for 6 hours. Do not apply make-up over injection points until the day after the procedure.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

  • Do not use a Clarisonic face cleansing brush when washing your face for one week.

  • Swelling/Discomfort/Redness: Swelling of your wrinkles occurs immediately. Significant swelling and redness of the treated areas and untreated parts may occur following your procedure and will be maximal at 24 - 48 hours. To minimize swelling, keep your head elevated. It is not uncommon for clients to experience under-eye swelling for the first 1 to 2 days, but this swelling will subside. There will be redness and slight heat emanating from the treated area for the first 24 hours, akin to a mild sunburn. It is unusual to experience severe or excessive pain; you should notify us if this occurs. Tiny scabs will usually be formed 24 - 72 hours post-treatment and may remain for several days. The scabs should not be touched or scratched even if they itch and should be allowed to shed off naturally.

  • Do not receive medical facials, Chemical peels, Laser treatments or microdermabrasion for two weeks.

  • Do not perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for 24 hours after treatment.

  • Apply a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB, SPF 30 or greater sunscreen after 24 hrs and add to your daily skincare routine to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

  • Most patients will continue to see improvement in their skin for 3-6 months or more. Patients will notice a rejuvenated glow even as the pigmentation, dark circles, scars and marks start to fade.

  • After your final treatment, your results will continue to improve. However, one touch-up session may be needed approximately every six months, depending on how your skin responds.
