Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers are primarily composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar molecule found in the human body. HA attracts water into our skin to become hydrated. As we age, we lose collagen and elastin from the skin, lose skin elasticity, our fat pads shrink, and our bones remodel, leading to loss of volume and contour. Dermal fillers are sterile Hyaluronic Acid injectable gels, a naturally-occurring substance in the skin used to smooth away facial lines and wrinkles and restore volume loss providing a more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers help reduce wrinkles and sagging by hydrating the skin and making you feel more youthful. HA Dermal Filler for the face will improve the look of smile lines (nasolabial folds) and restore the cheekbones. HA Dermal Fillers for the Lips help define the vermillion border to provide a natural lift and contour. Fuller lips can make a person look and feel younger. HA Dermal Fillers help restores/contour the jawline and diminish jowls and create a natural lift and contouring effect to facial structures. HA Dermal fillers are an excellent option for men and women who want to restore the volume loss in their face due to ageing to achieve a youthful appearance without the discomfort or downtime associated with invasive procedures.

HA Dermal fillers are most commonly used to:

  • Naturally, enhance, volumize and define younger lips

  • Subtly rejuvenate more mature lips that have lost volume over time, causing thinning and fine lines around the mouth

  • Hydrate the skin from within and restore the skin without altering the shape

  • Strengthen the skin to minimize facial lines and creases

  • Define and enhance adding facial structure, volume, and shape to the chin, cheeks, and jawline

  • Restore volume to the temples and tear troughs

  • Correct deeper nasolabial folds, downturned lip corners, and ‘marionette’ lines

  • Rejuvenate the face

  • Loss of volume in Cheeks

  • Lip Lines and Smoker Lines

  • Tear Troughs (Under Eye Hollows)

  • Reshape Chin or Nose

  • Eliminate Marionette Lines (lines side of mouth)

  • Reduce Nasolabial Folds (lines side of the nose)

  • Volume loss in Temples

  • Ageing Hands (Spots or prominent veins)

  • Scarring

  • Earlobe Rejuvenation

PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR DERMAL FILLERS

Before

  • Avoid alcohol, anti-inflammatory/blood-thinning medications, over-the-counter Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E or any other essential fatty acids for 24hr before treatment. These items may increase bleeding and bruising. ** Please do not discontinue prescribed blood-thinning medication such as Aspirin, Plavix, Warfarin, or Eliquis unless you have been advised by your prescriber or treatment practitioner

Please reschedule your appointment if you:

  1. have an active facial infection,

  2. have an active cold sore (or cold sore in the past two weeks)

  3. have a fever, shortness of breath, cough, or new nasal congestion/discharge

  4. tested positive for COVID-19 or any other communicable illness in the past 14 day

**Please contact us in advance to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

  • Do not consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours before treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)

  • Please reschedule your appointment if you have planned air travel, are currently on antibiotics or have had a recent dental procedure within two weeks of your treatment.

  • Avoid having dental work two weeks before or after receiving filler if possible-this includes cleaning and scaling.

  • Schedule your Dermal Filler and Botox appointment at least two weeks before a special event you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation. Results from the Dermal Filler and Botox injections will take approximately 4 to 7 days to appear. Bruising and swelling may be apparent and take to up to 2 weeks to heal.

  • Discontinue Retin-A 2 days before and two days following your treatment.

  • If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Speak to your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize an outbreak.

  • Reschedule your appointment for Dermal filler if you have had a viral illness, have taken antibiotics, or have had any dental procedures in the previous two weeks.

  • We recommend taking Arnica Montana (herb) two days prior to injections to reduce bruising and swelling. If you choose, please take five pellets three times per day, two days prior to treatment, the day of your treatment, and two days after your treatment.

  • Be sure to have a good meal, including food and drink, before your procedure. This will decrease the chance of light-headedness, fainting or low blood sugar during your treatment.

  • Use Chlorhexidine mouthwash prior to your lip filler appointment because it will reduce the risk of infections.

  • Please avoid wearing makeup to your appointment.

  • You must wear a mask, have a clean face with no makeup and have hair off the face.

POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR DERMAL FILLERS

After

What’s normal after a procedure?

  • Due to the anesthetic in the filler, you may feel numbness or tingling immediately after the procedure. This will subside.

  • Moderate swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness over areas treated. Mild, non-painful swelling can last for up to 2 weeks. Bruising is usually visible initially, then more obvious the next day before fading over 7 to 14 days. A small minority of bruises can last for 4-6 weeks.

  • Some people experience a dull ache or tenderness over the treated areas, which subsides between 48-72 hours.

  • The results of dermal fillers are immediate and can last 6-18 months* depending on a multitude of factors.

** Please discuss the longevity of your filler with your practitioner.

How to protect your result and reduce side effects:

You may:

  • Drink plenty of water - this will keep your filler hydrated.

  •  Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for tenderness if needed.

  • Keep the area cool with a cold compress every 15 minutes per hour as needed.

  • Sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling.

  • You may take Arnica (typically found in health food stores) to help the bruising if needed.

  • For 4 hours: Avoid touching the treatment area(s)

  • Avoid facial massages or electrical stimulation of the face for the next two weeks.

  • For 24 hours: Avoid strenuous exercise (sprinting, jumping jacks, HIIT, etc.) or Avoid excess alcohol (>2 beverages)

  • For 48 hours: Avoid exposure to UV light and heat (i.e. prolonged direct sun exposure, sauna, steam, sunbeds, hot showers).

  • For the first 48 hours, the product is malleable, meaning it can change shape. Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area. Try to avoid unnecessary pressure over any areas treated.

  • Avoid over-the-counter Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E or any other essential fatty acids at least three days to 1 week after treatment. These items may increase bleeding and bruising.

  • ** Lip filler: Avoid spicy food or hot drinks for 24-48hr, avoid heavy kissing for 1-2 days, avoid performing oral sex for 48hours, and avoid major dental work for two weeks.

  • ** Cheek filler: Avoid sleeping on your side for 48hr if possible

  • Avoid procedures such as medical facials, chemical peels, and laser treatments for two weeks after treatment

  • If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Speak to your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize an outbreak.

  • Avoid having dental work two weeks before or after receiving filler if possible-this includes cleaning and scaling.

  • We recommend taking Arnica Montana (herb) 2 days prior to injections to reduce bruising and swelling. If you choose, please take five pellets three times per day, two days prior to treatment, the day of your treatment, and two days after your treatment. You may purchase at most natural food stores and Amazon.

Reduce the Chance of Infection:

  • Do not touch the treated area for 6 hours.

  • DO NOT HAVE ANY MAJOR DENTAL PROCEDURE WITHIN 2 WEEKS

  • Do not apply make-up over injection points until the day after the procedure. Make-up contains high levels of bacteria. If you choose to use lip makeup, ensure it is clean (new, clean application).

  • Swelling, puffiness, or lumpiness does not fade in the first ten days with gentle massage.

  • The filler changes the texture and becomes hard, nodular, or lumpy, especially if there is redness or tenderness after 48 hours. All these symptoms may indicate a need for medical advice from your practitioner or family doctor if you are unable to see us, but please contact us so we can advise.

IMPORTANT: Contact us immediately if you have symptoms of a Vascular Occlusion or a Blocked Blood Vessel.
