SkinPen Precision is the first FDA-cleared and Health Canada-approved micro-needling device approved in Canada for use on the face and body areas. There are three phases to the wound repair process:

PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS MICRO-NEEDLING

Before

• Avoid alcohol, anti-inflammatory/blood-thinning medications, over-the-counter Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko, Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E or any other essential fatty acids for 24hr before treatment. These items may increase bleeding and bruising. ** Please do not discontinue prescribed blood-thinning medication such as Aspirin, Plavix, Warfarin, or Eliquis unless you have been advised by your prescriber or treatment practitioner

Please reschedule your appointment if you:                      

• have an active facial infection,

• have an active cold sore (or cold sore in the past two weeks)

• have a fever, shortness of breath, cough, or new nasal congestion/discharge

• tested positive for COVID-19 or any other communicable illness in the past 14 days, have an active facial infection     **Please contact us in advance to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

• Do not consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours before treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)

• Discontinue Retin-A 2 days before and two days following your treatment

• If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Speak to your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize an outbreak

• We recommend taking Arnica Montana (herb) two days prior to injections to reduce bruising and swelling. If you choose, please take five pellets three times per day, two days prior to treatment, the day of your treatment, and two days after your treatment

• No travel plans to a warm climate for one month after treatment

• No IPL/Laser or excessive sun exposure/sunburn for at least two weeks prior to treatment

• No waxing or other forms of hair removal seven days before treatment

• If possible, refrain from or minimize smoking before your procedure, as it impacts the healing process. 

• You must wear a mask, have a clean face with no makeup and have hair off the face

• You may continue other hair loss treatments such as laser treatment, minoxidil, or hormone-blocking tablets before your procedure. 

• It is ok to colour your hair up to 5 days before the procedure

• Increase your intake of fluid the day before your procedure by simply drinking two glasses of water in the morning, two glasses at lunch, and two glasses at dinner, in addition to your normal intake of water

• Shower the morning of your treatment and wash your hair very thoroughly using your regular shampoo

• Do not apply sprays, gels, or any other styling products to your hair

• Be sure to have a good meal, including food and drink, before your procedure. This will decrease the chance of lightheadedness, fainting or low blood sugar during your treatment

POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS MICRO-NEEDLING

After

• Do NOT touch, press, rub, or manipulate the treated area(s) for at least 8 hours after your treatment.

• Do not wash or take a shower for at least 6-8 hours after your treatment. 

• Allow the serum to remain on your skin for at least 6-8 hours following the treatment.

• Avoid alcohol, Aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as Advil, Motrin, Aleve), St. John's Wort, Omega 3's, Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba and Ginseng for one week after treatment. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

• To help avoid bruising, patients are recommended to discontinue the use of blood-thinning medication. Patients must consult their primary care physician before discontinuing any blood-thinning medicines if they are taking them for underlying health conditions.

• You may notice a tingling sensation while the cells are being activated. 

• Do not wet your hair for at least 8 hours after your treatment. 

• For the first three days, use a shampoo that is pH balanced.

• If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Speak to your healthcare professional about medications that may minimize an outbreak.

• Smokers do not heal well, problems recur earlier, and results take longer 

• Maintain a healthy diet and drink at least 64 oz of water the day of the treatment

• Rinse your face with lukewarm water and avoid using any cleansers that can cause harm.

• Some patients may experience discomfort, which should settle within 24 hours. If you continue to feel pain, patients can take Acetaminophen for relief.

• For the first 24 hours or so, you can expect to see redness, bruising, and swelling. The skin may also seem raw. By the second day, the redness may settle a little and start to appear like a sunburn.

• Avoid extensive sun or exposure to UV and extreme heat for 72 hours, i.e. sauna, steam, sunbeds, very hot showers, strenuous exercise etc. 

• Reduce the risk of infection and reaction by not touching the area for 6 hours. Do not apply make-up over injection points until the day after the procedure. 

• Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

• Do not use a Clarisonic face cleansing brush when washing your face for one week.

• Do not receive medical facials, Chemical peels, Laser treatments or microdermabrasion for two weeks.

• Do not perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for 24 hours after treatment. Apply a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB, SPF 25 or greater sunscreen to your daily skincare routine to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

• Most patients will continue to see improvement in their skin for six months or more; however, the effects of the treatment can last for 10 to 12 months. Patients will notice a rejuvenated glow even as the pigmentation, dark circles, scars and marks start to fade.

• The clinical evolution of Mesotherapy data suggests that most clients achieve their goal in the treated area on average; clients see more results after three micro-needling treatments. The number and interval between sessions will depend on personalized analysis of your skin, the treated areas, lifestyle and habits. 

 

When to Contact Us... 

 Monitor areas for adverse appearance and report if there are any concerns for timely review and assessment.
